When was the last time you put on that fancy dress you bought for your friend’s bachelor party? It’s probably been a while, right? So why is it still taking up space in your wardrobe?
Well, you’re not alone. Many of us struggle to let go of things, even when they no longer serve a purpose in our lives. However, the issue is we don’t know how to part with our things.
If you wish to declutter but aren’t sure where to begin, then you could go for the 80/20 rule.
Go for this simple strategy while removing the extra things from your house. The 80/20 rule states that 80% of the time, you use only the 20% of items you possess. So, there is a high possibility that the things you are storing for the future will rarely be used.
Getting rid of them is the wisest decision that will lead to a cleaner room, a clearer space, and, eventually, a lighter mind.
Let this blog guide you on how to clear your mind and home from the burdens of unnecessary things:
Prioritize
Prioritize the products based on their need in your life. Do you really need 5 shoes and 6 watches? No human does. But still, you have the step of saying goodbye is prioritizing things, mainly when you have multiple products of the same category, like apparel, shoes, makeup, bags, or even electronic items.
Prioritize and keep only one (a maximum of two) from each type, and eliminate the rest.
For example, you can categorize your shoes into sports, formal, and casual and keep one from each category.
Donate
Going by how much we own, the world is a really unfair place. While you own 6 jackets, out of which you wear only 2, some people do not even have the bare minimum to cover themselves.
Make it fairer by donating your excess. After prioritizing your things, the next thing you can do is donate everything that is in good condition but currently not useful to you. Contact multiple groups for donations of different categories. Donate and make the world a fairer place.

Share
Sharing is caring. Try to show your care by using more shared things than owning them. For example, if you are a book lover, be a member of a nearby library with good collections. Read as many books as possible without buying them.
You can make a shared wardrobe with your close friends and family instead of buying every new piece of apparel that catches your fancy.
Gift
Who said gifts can only be newly bought items? You can gift your used products to your loved ones when they are in perfectly usable condition but aren’t adding to your belongings list anymore.
For example, if you have not used that extra belt or bag for months, this is the best time to give it away to your friend or sibling. The same applies to pens, books, clothes, accessories, cookware, and everything else.
Always remember that gifting your used product makes it more valuable to your loved ones because it includes your touch.
Sell
Selling your extra things is always better than hoarding them. You can sell your extra commodities through different marketplaces. You will benefit in to ways: on the one hand, your home will be clutter-free, and on the other hand, you will have a possible passive income source as well.
If you’ve made it this far into the blog, you’ve likely made up your mind to say goodbye to your things (and there could be a smile on your face, too).
Always remember, if you have not used something for the last 6 months, then it is likely you will use it ever in the future.
Follow the above tips and bid farewell to the unnecessary!
